Before entering the SEA LIFE aquarium, long queues were forming along the guest route. The team wanted a way to keep visitors engaged, entertained, and learning before they even stepped inside the aquarium.
To solve this, we created a 5-part interactive QR journey called Help Turt Get Home, where guests follow a sea turtle named Turt as he navigates real ocean dangers like plastic bottles, plastic bags, and styrofoam. Each stop along the queue includes a short educational moment, a fun trivia question, and a new part of the story. By the final stop, guests help Turt make it safely to the coral reef and complete a pledge to support sea turtles.
The result was a simple but powerful queue-line experience that transformed waiting time into an interactive story. Guests were no longer just standing in line. They were scanning, learning, answering questions, and entering the aquarium already excited, informed, and connected to the conservation message.
The experience has seen strong scan activity, high guest satisfaction, and positive engagement throughout the full journey. It also helped guests learn something meaningful before entering the aquarium, while making the wait feel shorter and more enjoyable.
The entire experience is available in 133 different languages, allowing guests from around the world to participate in the same story in the language they are most comfortable with.
This experience worked because it turned a passive wait into an active journey. Instead of asking guests to simply stand in line, SEA LIFE gave them a mission, a character to care about, and small interactive moments along the way.
The format is flexible and can be adapted for almost any venue. Aquariums can use conservation stories, zoos can create animal rescue journeys, museums can build artifact or history-based missions, and amusement parks can use character-driven challenges before rides or attractions.
The storyline can change completely, but the concept stays the same: use QR codes to create a guided, interactive experience that makes wait time more valuable, memorable, and fun.

Scan the first QR code below to meet Turt and begin the journey. Then continue to the second page to scan each obstacle and see the full experience from start to finish.

Behind the experience, SEA LIFE can track scan activity, completion rates, engagement by stop, language usage, and how guests move through the journey. This creates valuable data on what guests are interacting with, where they are dropping off, and which messages are resonating most.
The same format can also include donation asks, email capture, surveys, membership prompts, sponsorship opportunities, or conservation pledges at the end of the experience, turning guest engagement into measurable impact.
This format is not limited to aquariums. The same approach can be used anywhere guests are waiting or moving through a route, including zoo entrances, museum lines, amusement park ride queues, botanical garden trails, city tours, event check-in areas, and school group staging spaces.
Any venue with a wait time has an opportunity to turn that moment into an engaging, educational, and memorable guest experience.
No pressure. Just 20 minutes, a few ideas for your venue, and absolutely no 47-slide sales deck.
