Making Exhibits More Accessible in Every Language

Across museums, zoos, aquariums, and cultural venues, exhibit signage often has a common challenge: there is only so much physical space available. Adding more languages usually means printing more signs, redesigning labels, or choosing which audiences to prioritize.

CheQRboard helps venues make exhibit content more accessible without replacing or overcrowding their existing signage. By adding QR codes to exhibit areas, guests can instantly access the same educational content in their preferred language, creating a more inclusive experience for visitors from different backgrounds.

"CheQRboard helped us make our Blue Whales special exhibition accessible to a broader audience by offering content in multiple languages without the need to replace or reprint labels. Their easy-to-use platform made implementation simple for our team, while visitors could instantly access content in their preferred language by scanning a QR code. It was a flexible and effective solution that helped us offer a more inclusive exhibition."โ€” Javan Sutton, Director of Interpretation & Planning, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences: Blue Whales Special Exhibition

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences used CheQRboard during its Blue Whales special exhibition to make exhibit signage available in seven different languages. Instead of replacing or reprinting labels, the museum added QR codes to existing signage so visitors could scan and access translated content instantly.

This allowed the museum to expand access to the exhibition while keeping the physical space clean, simple, and easy to navigate.

Zoo New England: Multilingual Penguin Exhibit

Zoo New England recently launched a new penguin exhibit and used CheQRboard to make the experience more accessible and engaging for guests. Exhibit information about penguins is now available in a dozen different languages, including fun facts, conservation information, and behind-the-scenes details about how the zoo cares for the animals.

The experience also gives ZNE a way to promote upcoming penguin encounters to guests in multiple languages, helping more visitors understand what is available and how they can participate.

By making the exhibit content multilingual and interactive, ZNE is helping more guests connect with the animals, understand the zooโ€™s conservation work, and learn about additional experiences they may not have otherwise discovered.

Why It Matters

Multilingual access helps venues create more inclusive guest experiences without overwhelming physical signage or taking on the cost and complexity of printing every label in multiple languages.

With CheQRboard, venues can:

  • Make exhibit content available in multiple languages
  • Add translations without reprinting or replacing signage
  • Share more detailed educational and conservation content
  • Promote programs, encounters, memberships, donations, or events
  • Track engagement, language usage, and visitor interaction data
  • Update content quickly as exhibits, programs, or change messaging
